Child's Easter Dress

A few weeks ago I dropped in at Stash, our local knit and fabric shop (also on the web fystash.com). Stash used to be located in The Barn and a magazine had been sent there, so I wanted to drop it off. It was nice catching up with Crystal, the owner, and I couldn't resit this yummy blue and green fabric and green ball fringe. I thought the colors would be great on my little grandaughter, Lain.

I finally got inspired to make the dress when I saw the little chick image today from The Graphics Fairy. I printed the image onto T-shirt transfer, cut it out and then ironed it on a patch of white woven cotton fabric. This was then ironed onto a white t-shirt using steam-a-seam. I then cut off the bottom 5 inches of the T-shirt, sewed the edges of the fabric, hemmed it, and gathered and stiched it onto the T-shirt. The ball fringe was stitched on from the outside.

The dress was the perfect finishing touch the Easter Basket for Lain. I've also used this basic idea with pillow cases. I try to find vintage pillow cases with nice embroidery or a nice scallop edge. I then just cut off the bottom part of the pillow case, gather the top and stich to the T-shirt. I made a few like this last week for Lain and they were adorable and so easy.
