Nordic-French Project

Everyone is going crazy right now for all things Nordic-French -ala Jeanne D'arc magazine. So I was ready to try my own interpretation of the style - characterized by muted, soft, greys, whites, blues and tans, and worn rustic finishes. I came upon a wonderful piece of natural linen fabric, originally inteded for needlework, at an Estate sale. If you do not have that, any textured, white or tan fabric will do. I tried this technique on three different things, a book, a book box, and a small scrap piece of wood.

The first step is to tear (you want the edges raggedy) the fabric into rectangles that are just smaller than the dimensions of your book, box, or plaque. I then adhered the fabric with watered down white glue (I used about a 60% glue to 40% water ratio.) I then immediately brushed white paint (you could use white craft paint or even wall paint), over everything.

After the paint had dried, I printed out french print ornaments and labels from The Graphics Fairy. I cut out some pretty, muted scrapbook paper in sizes just larger than my grapics. Using spray adhesive. I adhered the grapic to the paper and the paper to the object. You will need to use a very heavy coat of adhesive when gluing to the fabric, as it soaks up the glue. Give the glue a little time to work, then test to make sure it's all adhered. If not, just apply a little more glue. A very easy, quick project - I'm very happy with how it came out.
