Room With A Past

I am very happy that I have found a place in California to do business. It's called Room With A Past (roomwithapast.com). It's a monthly 4 day show in Walnut Creek. I am happy and excited to be a part of this creative and talented group of ladies. The next show will start on January 20th, so I am a very busy bee trying to get ready. At this time of the year there aren't many garage or estate sales, even in California, so I am hitting the thrift stores hard.

I wanted to share a few projets for my show debut, but first I have to tell about an amazing find - thrift store wise. Last week I found a nice grey - linnen drapery panel. I thought it would be a great backdrop for my new space. I was wishing there were 2, but that's how it is with thrift store shopping - you get what you get. Then today, I found the exact same drapery panel in another town at a different thrift store! I'll take a picture once I get my space set up.

The first project is a chair I found. I painted it a nice cream color, covered the seat in Osnaberg, which I stenciled with black stencil paint using a stencil I got on Etsy. I made the stripes using masking tape. I was inspired by Amy Smith of Whitewash, who sells chairs like these by the dozens. I wouldn't have looked twice at this chair before I saw what could be done with them.

I used the same stencil on this bag. I have to give credit to my friend Lainey, for pointing out the possibilities of this bag. We were shopping at Hobby Lobby before I moved to California, and she knew it would make a great stencil project. I coffee stained the canvas and aged the leather with brown shoe polish before doing the stencil.

The last project is a vintage 50's table runner. Nice fabric, in good shape, but a little plain for my tastes. This fix couldn't have been simpler. I used a black and white image from Graphics Fairy and iron on transfer paper. The hardest part was figuring out how to mirror reverse the image so it would look right when ironed on. I'm pretty sure that used to be setting in the print options, but no more. I got the same effect using the drawing tool in excel and doing a horizontal flip. I just cut out the image and then ironed it on.
