We finally got one of our short sale offers accepted, we close April 3rd. This will be 1 year after Chip first applied for his transfer, 8 months after learning he got the job and 5 months after moving. I am happy to be in California and happy to finally be in a home, but if I had known how long this would take, I'm not sure I would have had the courage to pursue it.
We had first looked at this home back in January. We had made an offer back in November on another home and this was supposed to be a backup. We loved both homes, but thought the other house would get approved first. To our surprise the other property never got approved, and after only 6 weeks (short sale refers to the sale being less that the amount owed - not to the time it takes to buy them) we were told the sale was approved.
So this is our new home. I went out to see it again and I was thinking - hmm....I think I'll plant some climbing roses on either side of the front porch. Then it hit me; this is my wild rose cottage! Wild Rose Cottage has been my business name and the place in my head and heart that has been the inspiration for my creativity, and now it has taken physical form and become reality.
Frankly when we started looking, we had hoped for one of the Craftsman bungalows that were also in the neighborhood. I now believe that this cottage is the place were were meant to be, it is in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, within walking distance of some nice restaurants and San Pablo Bay. It has a great floor plan that perfectly fits our lifestyle. The house and yard are not too big, not too small, but just right. The window upstairs will be in my new creative space and studio. The ceiling matches the roof line, so it is a really great space. I can't wait to fix it up.

Lisa - I love this house! I can't wait to see photos from the inside! Is it listed online anywhere? We are supposed to close at the end of this month if all goes well and I'm already dreading the move and the househunting/closing process. I'm really hoping to find a house we like that's available and affordable! Unfortunately, so far the ones with all the charm and character are too close to the "bad neighborhoods" - oh well! Perserverance is key (and alot of patience!)!
